Our History
Blue Collar Muscle Rods & Custom was formed in 2018 yet we provide over 30 years of experience to the antique, classic, and muscle car enthusiast. We only focus on custom and special interest cars and trucks. Our experienced technicians perform custom restoration work, performance upgrades, service, and repairs. We modernize classic cars and trucks with engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and steering improving the power, comfort, ride quality, and safety. Our stock interiors appear factory new and our custom interiors are amazing.
Some cars will undergo a dramatic transformation and will be completely disassembled to renew the entire car with everything new, rebuilt or restored. On the other hand, some cars may not need a thorough restoration or their owners may not have the budget for a custom build. We understand that; hence the name Blue Collar. If you have considered a custom build shop, you may have found that some shops focus on the $500,000 or one million dollar build. While it is fantastic to build a car with a budget like that, we understand that not everyone has a budget that large.
We work with customers with all budgets and develop a plan to get your car out of the garage and you behind the wheel. Some cars will receive a full custom build. You may own or may be considering purchasing a car that is in good condition. Or perhaps your car’s exterior has fantastic patina, but in any case the rest of the car is largely unrestored. Not every car needs paint or should be painted. We love painting cars but paint and body requires a larger budget because it is labor intensive and we use the best materials. A car with carefully selected parts for the steering, suspension, and brakes is safer and more enjoyable to drive. We work with our customers to develop a plan without stressing your budget or leaving the car half finished and unusable.
Eric & Traci Meyer are the owners of Blue Collar and together share a passion for hot rods and customs. Eric has been buying, building and restoring their own cars for more than 30 years. With a growing family and shrinking free time, Eric employed a few shops to perform some work for him. Sometimes the work didn’t meet expectations. This set the wheels in motion that Eric wanted to bring the highest quality work to car enthusiasts. Unfortunately you may have experienced “paint jail” or you have had to pull your car from a shop since they were not working on your car because a more lucrative build came into the shop. That doesn’t happen here.
Eric has an engineering degree but wanted to work on cars full time. Realizing he needed formal training he attended Lansing Community College and is certified with an Automotive Collision Technology degree. He has the training and experience of all areas of the vehicle including drivelines, suspension, brakes, welding, body repair, and painting. Eric is the “car guys” car guy. Eric’s attention to detail and expectation of quality work is well suited for a custom car and restoration shop.
